The mother follows your advice and calls her child's doctor or nurse. He examines the baby and obtains a bilirubin count of 14 (total 14 mg/dL, direct 0.9 mg/dL). He advised her to take the baby off breastfeeding for 24 hours and give formula during that time and to return tomorrow for a recheck.
