The development of term breast-fed infants
Over the past several years local and national
newspaper articles have highlighted the fact that infants who
are breast-fed are smarter than babies who are fed formula
(smarter is defined as better results on tests of mental
abilities).
- How do we know if this is really true?
- How do we know that these babies were
not in a better socioeconomic and family environment,
which accounts for their better test results?
The first examination of this premise was conducted by
Hoefer and Hardy back in 1929.
